Absorbed Power AGM Batteries
Absorbed Power AGM batteries are manufactured in China and have been sold in Australia since 1998. Initially they were branded Powerdive batteries. Over the past 10 years they have proven themselves to be very good quality batteries with all the advantages that AGM technology offers. They are fully sealed, so they require no maintenance, can't spill and don't gas. Absorbed Power AGM batteries can be tipped on their side and transported as non-dangerous goods, although it is not recommended that they be premanently mounted on their sides or upside down. Absorbed Power batteries meet Category 3 requirements for racing yachts. Above all they have excellent performance characteristics. Glass mat batteries absorb and deliver charge at a higher rate than all other battery types. They are thus ideal when a fast recharge or high instantaneous current is requires such as for starter motors, winches or thrusters. Absorbed Power batteries have a very low self-discharge rate and can thus be left for long periods and still have sufficient charge when first used again to e.g. crank an engine. These batteries also demonstrate excellent deep cycling characteristics and have a much longer life expectancy than flooded lead acid batteries - if well cared for at least five years, very possibly up to about ten years. Whilst not having the cycle life of a gel battery, they are considerably cheaper than gel batteries. AGM batteries are the ideal batteries for boats that are used irregularly. They can also be used for live-aboard and blue water cruising boats that deep cycle their batteries on an almost daily basis, but gel batteries would probably be optimal for such applications. Absorbed Power batteries can be charged with any battery chargers designed for charging flooded lead acid batteries, but for optimal charging, smart, temperature regulated three-stage charging is recommended. Bulk and absorption voltage 14,2V to 14,8V, float voltage 13,2V to 13,7V. Absorbed Power batteries carry a 2 year exchange warranty. Absorbed Power batteries have M6 threaded insert terminals but are also supplied with bolt-on SAE posts. |

DEKA AGM batteries
Deka Sea Mate AGM batteries are manufactured in the USA by East Penn, one of the largest and foremost battery manufacturers in the USA. Deka Sea Mate batteries are specially designed for engine starting and the long deep discharges of marine applications. The 100% maintenance free absorbed glass mat design immobilises the electrolyte making Deka Sea Mate spillproof and leakproof, so they're safe to use no matter how much the boat gets tossed about. They will even continue to preform if submerged. Deka Sea Mate batteries are available in all popular marine sizes with abundant cranking power for quick, easy starting and all the reserve power neccessary to keep auxilliary equipment running strongly. Highly porous separators lower internal resistance and increase power, ensuring higher discharge rates and faster starts. The electrolyte is absorbed into microporous glass strand separators, eliminating the danger of acid spills and terminal corrosion. The specially engineered high-tech safety relief valves of Deka Sea Mate batteries control critical internal gas pressure, keeping outside air out and preventing capacity loss from gas seepage. Computer cast power path grids and individual tank formed plates ensure highest quality and consistent performance, and the tightly packed construction warrant optimal resistance to shock loads and vibrations. Bulk and absorption voltage 14,4V (up to 14,6V) @ 20ᄚC, float voltage 13,5V (up to 13,7V) @ 20ᄚC. Deka Sea Mate batteries carry a 12 months exchange warranty. |
