Bosch K1 Alternators, 50mm boss mount

Bosch 12V 95A and 120A and 24V 55A alternators, with removable internal regulator and unrectified ac tacho output (terminal W). 50mm mounting boss. A minimum load of 2 Watt is needed to excite the 12V alternators and 3W for the 24V alternator. If external regulation is required, brush holder 101020 should be fitted. Perfectly suited to work with any of our smart external regulators from Ample Power or BALMAR. The fans and pulleys for the 12V alternators must be purchased seperately. Specify high airflow fan 101003. Two groove pulley strongly recommended for 12V95A alternator, essential for 12V120 A and 24V55A alternators. Alternator speed must be at least 6000 r/min at normal engine operating speed, so pulley ratio crankshaft pulley diameter to alternator pulley diameter must be selected accordingly. Do not reduce alternator pulley size to below that of the standard BOSCH pulleys, as belt slip and/or glazing may ensue due to insufficient angle of wrap on the alternator pulley. If neccessary, the crankshaft pulley diameter should be increased in order to increase alternator speed. In engine compartments where high ambient temperatures prevail, ducted cool air to the rear of the alternator should be provided.

BOSCH Alternator Fans

The cooling fans and pulleys for BOSCH alternators are separate parts. The fan draws air through the alternator, ie from the back towards the pulley. The normal direction of rotation of engines and alternators is clockwise looking from the front of the alternator. If the arrow showing direction of rotation on the fan is going in reverse, the reverse rotating fan listed below must be purchased. The high output fan is strongly recommended for the 12V95A and 120A and 24V55A alternators. The alternator temperature should be monitored after installation. If the alternator is running very hot during charging, especially if an external regulator is fitted, it may be necessary to duct cool air to the rear of the alternator, expecially in confined engine compartments with poor ventilation.

BOSCH Alternator Pulleys

The cooling fans and pulleys are separate parts on BOSCH alternators. Note that whilst provision is made on the alternator shafts to fit keyed pulleys, this is not essential - the standard Bosch pulleys are fitted without keys. BOSCH alternators only achieve their rated output at speeds of 6000 r/min or greater. It is therefore important to ensure that a pulley ratio is selected that will ensure that the alternator reaches these speeds at the engine speeds that will normally be likely when charging is to occur. Do not try to find smaller alternator pulleys if the alternator needs to be sped up, as this will reduce the contact area of the belt on the pulley and result in belt slippage. If higher alternator speeds are required, the size of the driving pulley on the crankshaft should be increased.

BOSCH Alternator Brush Holder

This brush holder will allow connection of an external regulator to a BOSCH alternator. The internal regulator is simply unscrewed this brush holder fitted instead. Three 6,35mm spade connections. The original regulator can be kept as a standby in case the external regulator fails - it is just as easily refitted as it was removed.

Insulating Kit for BOSCH Alternators
